FortiLink NAC is a rules-based network access control system that automates the onboarding of devices onto the LAN. It ensures that devices are placed in the appropriate security context by leveraging the security and networking controls integrated within the FortiGate Next-Generation Firewall (NGFW). This allows for effective management of devices as they connect to the network.
How does FortiLink NAC work?
FortiLink NAC utilizes a set of user-configurable rules to determine the appropriate actions for devices when they connect to the network, whether wired or wireless. Initially, all incoming devices are placed into an onboarding virtual LAN (VLAN) while their security posture is assessed. This ensures that no traffic is allowed to access the broader network until the device's security status is properly established.
What challenges does FortiLink NAC address?
FortiLink NAC addresses several challenges, including the complexity of onboarding a diverse range of devices, such as personal devices and IoT devices, which often have varying security requirements. With 70% of organizations experiencing employees bringing their own devices into the workplace, FortiLink NAC simplifies the process of securing network access without adding unnecessary complexity, allowing IT teams to manage device connections more effectively.
